They took Absalom and cast him into a great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones. Then all Israel fled, each to his own tent.
Y’all must tell Amasa, ‘Are you not my bone and my flesh? May God deal with me, and more also, if you aren’t captain of the army before me continually in place of Joab.’”
The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son!”
You love those who hate you, and you hate those who love you. Today you have declared that commanders and servants are nothing to you. For today I perceive that if Absalom had lived and we had all died today, then it would have pleased you well.
I am weak today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May YHWH reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.”
Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them. In the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard from heaven; and according to your manifold mercies you gave them saviors who saved them out of the hands of their adversaries.
