¶ Ye have heard how it was said to them of old time, thou shalt not commit advoutry.
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. [Exod. 20:14; Deut. 5:18.]
Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
“You have heard that it was said, Don’t commit adultery.
You have heard that it was said to the ancients: 'You shall not commit adultery.'
You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not commit adultery.
¶ Ye have heard how it was said unto them of the old time: Thou shalt not kill. Whosoever shall kill, shall be in danger of judgement.
¶ Again ye have heard, how it was said to them of old time, thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform thine oath to God.
¶ Ye have heard how it is said, an eye for an eye: a tooth for a tooth.
¶ Ye have heard how it is said: thou shalt love thine neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
