I prayed, “O my God, I am ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God! For our iniquities are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens.


When I kept silent, my bones became brittle through my groaning all day long.


I am bent over, bowed down greatly. All day I walk about in mourning.


For evils beyond number surround me, my sins have overtaken me —I cannot see— they are more than the hairs of my head —and my heart fails me.


Records of sins overwhelm me— You will atone for our transgressions.


Those who hate me without a cause outnumber the hairs of my head. Powerful are my enemies who would destroy me with lies. What I did not steal, must I restore?


Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Then why has no healing gone up for the daughter of my people?
