My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in.


My son, do not go along with them, keep your foot from their path—


My son, if you accept my words and treasure my mitzvot within you,


Listen to your father who begot you and do not despise your mother when she is old.


My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my mitzvot.


The eye that mocks a father and scorns obeying a mother— will be pecked out by ravens of the valley and eaten by young vultures!


The words of King Lemuel, an oracle that his mother taught him:


I would not listen to my teacher’s voice or incline my ear to my instructors.


My son, keep your father’s mitzvah, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.


My son, keep my words and treasure my mitzvot within you.


So we obeyed the voice of Jonadab son of Rechab our father in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters,
