Then Adonai said to me: “The prophets prophesy lies in My Name! I did not send them, nor commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, divination, futility, a delusion of their heart.”


“I did not send those prophets, yet they ran. I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.


“I have heard what the prophets said, who prophesy lies in My Name, saying: ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’


Then said the prophet Jeremiah to the prophet Hananiah: “Hear now, Hananiah! Adonai has not sent you, yet you have caused this people to trust in a lie.


Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying: ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you or against this land?’


‘Soon, all the women who are left in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officers of the king of Babylon, and those women will say: “Your close friends have misled you, and prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, and they deserted you.’”


Your prophets have seen for you false and worthless visions. They did not expose your iniquity, so as to restore your captivity. Rather, they have seen for you false and worthless oracles.


If a man walking in a spirit of falsehood speaks lies—“I will prophesy for you of wine and strong drink”—then he would be a spokesman of this people.


The idols utter deceit and diviners see lies. They relate false dreams and comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep, afflicted because there is no shepherd.


“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.


Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the mutilation.


Loved ones, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
