Then the remnant of the people who were left in the city—the deserters who had defected to the Babylonian king and the rest of the populace—Nebuzaradan captain of the guard exiled them.


The king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was exiled from its land.


I will make people scarcer than gold, even than the pure gold of Ophir.

At the sound of horsemen and archers the whole city flees. They go into the thickets and climb up on the rocks. The whole city is deserted— no one dwells in it.

Why do You always forget us and forsake us for so long?

For if their rejection leads to the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
