So Jacob remained all by himself. Then a man wrestled with him until the break of dawn.


So Jacob named the place Peniel, “for I’ve seen God face to face, and my life has been spared.”


Then Jacob glanced up and saw, behold, there was Esau coming—and 400 men with him. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants.


Then Jeroboam rebuilt Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim and resided there. From there he went out and built Penuel.


From there he went up to Penuel and spoke to them similarly, but the men of Penuel answered him just as the men of Succoth had answered.


That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any who enter Dagon’s house will tread on Dagon’s threshold in Ashdod.
