Isaac was 40 years old when he took for himself Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.


So now my son, listen to my voice. Get up—flee to Laban my brother in Haran!


Now Esau saw that Isaac blessed Jacob when he sent him to Paddan-aram to take for himself a wife from there, when he blessed him and commanded him saying, “Don’t take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.”


Then Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were contemptible in his father Isaac’s eyes.


“Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long upon the land which Adonai your God is giving you.


Hear, my son, your father’s instruction and forsake not your mother’s teaching.


The eye that mocks a father and scorns obeying a mother— will be pecked out by ravens of the valley and eaten by young vultures!


“Each one of you is to respect his mother and his father, and keep My Shabbatot. I am Adonai your God.


Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.


“so that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.”


Children, obey your parents in every respect, for this is pleasing to the Lord.
