You who take pride in the Torah, through your violation of the Torah, do you dishonor God?


What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?


For this reason I write these things while I am absent, so that when I am present I need not proceed harshly, according to the authority which the Lord gave me—for building up and not for tearing down.


I spoke a warning, when I was with you the second time. Though now I am away, I am again speaking a warning to those who have sinned before, as well as to all the rest, that if I come again, I will not spare anyone—


For to this end I also wrote, that I might know your character, whether you are obedient in all things.


His feelings toward you overflow when he remembers everyone’s obedience—how you received him with fear and trembling.


Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander—whom I have handed over to satan to be disciplined not to blaspheme.


So if I do come, I will call attention to what he is doing—slandering us with wicked words. Not even content with that, he refuses to welcome the brethren, and even forbids those who want to do so— throwing them out of the community!
