The young man informing him answered, “I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, and look, Saul was leaning on his spear, while the chariots and the horsemen were closing in on him.
So David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the open square of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them on the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa.

Now when Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was afraid and his heart trembled greatly.
Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. Israel’s men fled before the Philistines and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
It was the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
