Then he turned to the disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!
And behold, a lawyer stood up to test Jesus, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Your father Abraham was glad that he would see my day. He saw it and rejoiced.”
These all died in faith without receiving the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance and welcomed them. And they acknowledged that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth.
All these people were commended for their faith, but they did not receive what was promised.
