Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.
And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him,
But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not on the side of God, but of men.”
So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.
But they understood none of these things; this saying was hid from them, and they did not grasp what was said.
But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him.
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him; so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’?
Just then his disciples came. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but none said, “What do you wish?” or, “Why are you talking with her?”
