My eyes shed streams of tears, because men do not keep thy law.


With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord! I will keep thy statutes.


But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the Lord's flock has been taken captive.


“You shall say to them this word: ‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is smitten with a great wound, with a very grievous blow.


For I heard a cry as of a woman in travail, anguish as of one bringing forth her first child, the cry of the daughter of Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands, “Woe is me! I am fainting before murderers.”


O that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!


“For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my courage; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.”


She weeps bitterly in the night, tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they have become her enemies.


The Lord determined to lay in ruins the wall of the daughter of Zion; he marked it off by the line; he restrained not his hand from destroying; he caused rampart and wall to lament, they languish together.


They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves, they rebel against me.


For the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the woodwork respond.
