I shall be condemned; why then do I labor in vain?
If I be wicked, Why then labour I in vain?
I shall be held guilty and be condemned; why then should I labor in vain [to appear innocent]?
I shall be condemned; Why then do I labor in vain?
I myself am thought guilty; why have I tried so hard in vain?
Yet, if I am also just as impious, why have I labored in vain?
But if so also, I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?
I will say to God, Do not condemn me; let me know why thou dost contend against me.
although thou knowest that I am not guilty, and there is none to deliver out of thy hand?
“Behold, I know your thoughts, and your schemes to wrong me.
Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me as his enemy;
Though I am innocent, my own mouth would condemn me; though I am blameless, he would prove me perverse.
It is all one; therefore I say, he destroys both the blameless and the wicked.
The Lord will not abandon him to his power, or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.
All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence.
you say, ‘I am innocent; surely his anger has turned from me.’ Behold, I will bring you to judgment for saying, ‘I have not sinned.’
