And I will make him the first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.


“Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the people of Israel go out of his land.”


And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness; and behold, you have not yet obeyed.”


For thou art our Father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us; thou, O Lord, art our Father, our Redeemer from of old is thy name.


Yet, O Lord, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou art our potter; we are all the work of thy hand.


“Is Israel a slave? Is he a homeborn servant? Why then has he become a prey?


With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.


When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.


“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, ‘How have we despised thy name?’


and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt have I called my son.”


They are Israelites, and to them belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises;


and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”


“You are the sons of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness on your foreheads for the dead.


Do you thus requite the Lord, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?


and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,


Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
