Is evil a recompense for good? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.
And Moses was very angry, and said to the Lord, “Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one ass from them, and I have not harmed one of them.”
And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”
And when they came to him, he said to them: “You yourselves know how I lived among you all the time from the first day that I set foot in Asia,
Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you,
So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward God and toward men.
For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world, and still more toward you, with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God.
The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie.
We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.
Open your hearts to us; we have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one.
for our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
For we never used either words of flattery, as you know, or a cloak for greed, as God is witness;
For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you,
Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Now you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness,
not as domineering over those in your charge but being examples to the flock.
