(Therefore the Lord gave Israel a savior, so that they escaped from the hand of the Syrians; and the people of Israel dwelt in their homes as formerly.

Therefore on that day he was called Jerubbaal, that is to say, “Let Baal contend against him,” because he pulled down his altar.


Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the spring of Harod; and the camp of Midian was north of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.


Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.
