from men by thy hand, O Lord, from men whose portion in life is of the world. May their belly be filled with what thou hast stored up for them; may their children have more than enough; may they leave something over to their babes.


The more words, the more vanity, and what is man the better?


Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life which he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.


“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.


“But take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a snare;


And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.


They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.


I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”


strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.


remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.


and therefore I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.

Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
