From men, which are thy hand, O Lord, from worldly men me save, Which only in this present life their part and portion have. Whose belly with thy treasure hid thou fill'st: they children have In plenty; of their goods the rest they to their children leave.


Sure each man walks in a vain show; they vex themselves in vain: He heaps up wealth, and doth not know to whom it shall pertain.


For he shall carry nothing hence when death his days doth end; Nor shall his glory after him into the grave descend.


So rude was I, and ignorant, and in thy sight a beast.


Thy former loving-kindnesses, O Lord, where be they now? Those which in truth and faithfulness to David sworn hast thou?


Ye brutish people! understand; fools! when wise will ye grow?
