A by-word also thou dost us among the heathen make; The people, in contempt and spite, at us their heads do shake.

Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, A shaking of the head among the people.

You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the heads among the people.

Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.

You’ve made us a bad joke to the nations, something to be laughed at by all peoples.

All the glory of the daughter of its king is inside, in golden fringes,

All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,

I also am a vile reproach unto them made to be; And they that did upon me look did shake their heads at me.

O Lord, be gracious to us, unto us gracious be; Because replenish'd with contempt exceedingly are we.

All that me see laugh me to scorn; shoot out the lip do they; They nod and shake their heads at me, and, mocking, thus do say,

Unto our neighbours a reproach most base become are we; A scorn and laughingstock to them that round about us be.
