In the time of his distress he became yet more faithless to the Lord—this same King Ahaz.


“Thus says King Cyrus of Persia: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all his people, may the Lord his God be with him! Let him go up.”

so that they may offer pleasing sacrifices to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king and his children.

Then the king said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.


O give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.


And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall this kingdom be left to another people. It shall crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever;


“I am a Hebrew,” he replied. “I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”


But wicked people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived.
