Then Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go through the land to all the springs of water and to all the wadis; perhaps we may find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, and not lose some of the animals.”


the Arameans on the east and the Philistines on the west, and they devoured Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger has not turned away; his hand is stretched out still.


But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a more shocking thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from wickedness; all of them have become like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.


Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have the forehead of a whore, you refuse to be ashamed.


And I thought, “After she has done all this she will return to me”; but she did not return, and her false sister Judah saw it.


O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to turn back.


They shall return to the land of Egypt, and Assyria shall be their king, because they have refused to return to me.


Israel's pride testifies against him; yet they do not return to the Lord their God, or seek him, for all this.


I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.


You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and there shall be a gnawing hunger within you; you shall put away, but not save, and what you save, I will hand over to the sword.


You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and you that earn wages earn wages to put them into a bag with holes.


I struck you and all the products of your toil with blight and mildew and hail; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.
