Even after this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who wanted to be priests he consecrated for the high places.


While he was in distress he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.


Esther said, “A foe and enemy, this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.


Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”

Why do you seek further beatings? Why do you continue to rebel? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.


O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to turn back.


For consider: What! If you despise the rod, will it not happen? says the Lord God.
