Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. ‘Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,’ he said, ‘and then I will come with you.’ ‘Go back,’ Elijah replied. ‘What have I done to you?’

Another disciple said to him, ‘Lord, first let me go and bury my father.’
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” So they began to celebrate.

Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, ‘Follow me!’
Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.’
