From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.


‘As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’


What do you think?’ ‘He is worthy of death,’ they answered.


Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.


Then they said, ‘Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.’


This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
