From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.


‘Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.’


But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’


They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.’ And the disciples were filled with grief.


As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, ‘Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.’


At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,


From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.


Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!’


He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.


Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?’


He told them, ‘This is what is written: the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,


And he said, ‘The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.’


And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marvelling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples,


Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him –


For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
