Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!’


Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, ‘You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected.’


My people, remember what Balak king of Moab plotted and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.’


‘Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.’


While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women,


There on the plains of Moab they camped along the Jordan from Beth Jeshimoth to Abel Shittim.


Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,


‘I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.


For of this you can be sure: no immoral, impure or greedy person – such a person is an idolater – has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.


By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.


In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?


Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey it, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!’


The king of Jericho was told, ‘Look, some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.’

Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over.


On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover.


When they sent men to spy out Bethel (formerly called Luz),


Then the five men who had spied out the land of Laish said to their fellow Danites, ‘Do you know that one of these houses has an ephod, some household gods and an image overlaid with silver? Now you know what to do.’


The five men who had spied out the land went inside and took the idol, the ephod and the household gods while the priest and the six hundred armed men stood at the entrance of the gate.


So the Danites sent five of their leading men from Zorah and Eshtaol to spy out the land and explore it. These men represented all the Danites. They told them, ‘Go, explore the land.’ So they entered the hill country of Ephraim and came to the house of Micah, where they spent the night.
