But if you will not send him, we will not go down, because the man said to us, “You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.” ’
But you told your servants, “Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will not see my face again.”
But the king said, ‘He must go to his own house; he must not see my face.’ So Absalom went to his own house and did not see the face of the king.
Absalom lived for two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king’s face.

What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
