And it was so, when Eli´sha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.


So the king sent Jehu´di to fetch the roll; and he took it out of Elish´ama the scribe's chamber. And Jehu´di read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.


The Lord hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.


Son of man, hath not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said unto thee, What doest thou?


Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;


And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.


And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:


Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.


and I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.


But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.


And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin; but now they have no cloak for their sin.


Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.


For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
