Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.


And Sarah died in Kir´jath–ar´ba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.


And it came to pass after this, that David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.


But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephun´neh.

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.


Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Ab´igail; and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.


We made an invasion upon the south of the Cher´ethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.
