By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.


And the sons of Javan; Eli´shah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Do´danim.


The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.


And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.


Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.


The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.


Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ash´urites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim.


Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Eli´shah was that which covered thee.


For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.


And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
