Now after the time that Amazi´ah did turn away from following the Lord they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.
After this did Sennach´erib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezeki´ah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
when the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Aze´kah: for these defensed cities remained of the cities of Judah.
And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth–ho´ron, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Aze´kah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.
