and I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.


And Ahazi´ah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, inquire of Ba-al´–zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.


and Zabad his son, and Shuthe´lah his son, and Ezer, and El´e-ad, whom the men of Gath that were born in that land slew, because they came down to take away their cattle.


and I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ash´kelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.


Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?


from Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Ga´zathites, and the Ash´dothites, the Esh´kalonites, the Gittites, and the Ek´ronites; also the Avites:

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.


And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.


And the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
