You have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked in mourning before the LORD of hosts?
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, since you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Whatsoever thing I command you, observe to do it: you shall not add thereto, nor take away from it.

But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

For I testify unto every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And turn you not aside: for then should you go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
