And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshiped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn, and earth upon his head:
But if you return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father’s servant in time past, so will I now also be your servant: then you may for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.
So Hushai David’s friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
For he has gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons, and the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.
And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.
