But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Yisra'el; as the LORD commanded Moshe.


Now this is the history of the generations of Aharon and Moshe in the day that the LORD spoke with Moshe in Mount Sinai.


The LORD spoke to Moshe in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,


*Number the children of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shall you number.*


According to the mitzvah of the LORD they were numbered by Moshe, everyone according to his service, and according to his burden. Thus were they numbered by him, as the LORD commanded Moshe.
