For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.


'The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says the LORD of Armies; 'and in this place will I give shalom,' says the LORD of Armies.*


*Moreover when you fast, don't be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.


Therefore when you do merciful deeds, don't sound a shofar before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.


*When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.


Woe to you, you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.


Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;


But you have dishonored the poor man. Don't the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?
