The word of the LORD came to me, saying,


thus says the LORD of Armies; Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that can't be eaten, they are so bad.


The LORD said to me, *`Amos, what do you see?* I said, *A plumb line.* Then the Lord said, *Behold, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Yisra'el. I will not again pass by them any more.


He said, *`Amos, what do you see?* I said, *A basket of summer fruit.* Then the LORD said to me, *The end has come on my people Yisra'el. I will not again pass by them any more.


He said to me, *What do you see?* I said, *I have seen, and behold, a menorah all of gold, with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; there are seven pipes to each of the lamps, which are on the top of it;


He said to me, *What do you see?* I answered, *I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits, and its breadth ten cubits.*


(In earlier times in Yisra'el, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he said, Come, and let us go to the seer; for he who is now called a Prophet was before called a Seer.)
