There was a famine in the land. Avram went down into Egypt to live as a foreigner there, for the famine was severe in the land.


It happened after the death of Avraham that God blessed Yitzchak, his son. Yitzchak lived by Be'er-Lachai-Ro'i.


Ya`akov gave Esav bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esav despised his birthright.


The sons of Yisra'el came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Kena`an.


The famine was severe in the land.


There was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, It is for Sha'ul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Giv`onim.
