A certain man saw it, and told Yo'av, and said, Behold, I saw Avshalom hanging in an oak.


The man said to Yo'av, Though I should receive a thousand [pieces of] silver in my hand, I still wouldn't put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged you and Avishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Avshalom.


Say you to `Amasa, Aren't you my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you aren't captain of the army before me continually in the room of Yo'av.


For the enemy pursues my soul. He has struck my life down to the ground. He has made me live in dark places, as those who have been long dead.


So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.
