It happened at the return of the year, that Ben-Hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Afek, to fight against Yisra'el.


But the rest fled to Afek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben-Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.


Geval, `Ammon, and `Amalek; Peleshet with the inhabitants of Tzor;


You stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Yisra'el,


the king of Afek, one; the king of Lassharon, one;


on the south; all the land of the Kena`anim, and Me`arah that belongs to the Tzidonim, to Afek, to the border of the Amori;


and Yanus, and Beit-Tappuach, and Afekah,


`Ummah also, and Afek, and Rechov: twenty-two cities with their villages.


but you have this day rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said to him, [No], but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.


Now the Pelishtim gathered together all their armies to Afek: and the Yisra'eli's encamped by the spring which is in Yizre`el.


The LORD said to Shemu'el, Behold, I will do a thing in Yisra'el, at which both the ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle.


The Pelishtim put themselves in array against Yisra'el: and when they joined battle, Yisra'el was struck before the Pelishtim; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.


Now the Pelishtim had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Even-Ha`ezer to Ashdod.


Then Shemu'el took a stone, and set it between Mitzpah and Shen, and called the name of it Even-Ha`ezer, saying, Hitherto has the LORD helped us.
