And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.”
But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.”
This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. He received living oracles to give to us.
Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary.
