Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die.


He answered, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid, and thought, “Surely the thing is known.”


And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”


But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?”


And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”


When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them.


“This Moses, whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.


Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,


Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him.
