The people stood there watching \{Jesus\}. The Jewish leaders laughed at Jesus. They said, “If he is God’s Chosen One, the Christ, {\cf2\super [378]} then let him save himself. He saved other people, didn’t he?”
But our leaders and the leading priests gave him away to be judged and killed. They nailed Jesus to a cross.
But many people believed in Jesus. Even many of the Jewish leaders believed in Jesus. But they were afraid of the Pharisees. {\cf2\super [205]} So they did not say openly that they believed. They were afraid that they would be put out of the synagogue. {\cf2\super [206]}
Pilate said, “What is truth?” When Pilate said this, he went out to the Jewish leaders again. Pilate said to them, “I can find nothing to charge against this man.
Again Pilate came out and said to the Jewish leaders, “Look! I am bringing Jesus out to you. I want you to know that I find nothing I can charge against him.”
There was a man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus was one of the Pharisees. {\cf2\super [45]} He was an important Jewish leader.
But he is teaching where everyone can see and hear him. And no person is trying to stop him from teaching. Maybe the leaders have decided that he really is the Christ. {\cf2\super [109]}
Have any of the leaders believed in Jesus? No! Have any of us Pharisees believed in him? No!
The \{Jews\} living in Jerusalem and the Jewish leaders did not realize that \{Jesus\} was the Savior. The words that the prophets {\cf2\super [268]} wrote \{about Jesus\} were read to the Jews every Sabbath day, {\cf2\super [269]} but they did not understand. The Jews condemned Jesus. When they did this, they made the words of the prophets come true!
