Terah took his family and left Ur of Babylonia. [70] They planned to travel to Canaan. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai (Abram’s wife). They traveled to the city of Haran and decided to stay there.


When Isaac was 40 years old he married Rebekah. Rebekah was from Paddan Aram. She was Bethuel’s daughter and the sister of Laban the Aramean.


So Rebekah said to him, “I will accept the blame if there is trouble. Do the things I said. Go and get the goats for me.”


Rebekah heard about Esau’s plan to kill Jacob. She sent for Jacob and said to him, “Listen, your brother Esau is planning to kill you.


So listen son, and do what I tell you.


Jacob left Beersheba and went to Haran.


So Isaac sent Jacob to Rebekkah’s brother in Paddan Aram. So Jacob went to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean. Laban was the brother of Rebekkah. Rebekkah was the mother of Jacob and Esau.


And Esau learned that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother and went to Paddan Aram.


God said to Jacob, “Go to the town of Bethel. [200] Live there and make an altar [201] for worship. Remember El, [202] the God who appeared [203] to you there when you were running away from your brother Esau. Make your altar to worship that God there.”


Any person who makes fun of his father or refuses to obey his mother will be punished. It will be as bad for him as if his eyes were eaten by vultures and wild birds.


“Jonadab son of Recab ordered his sons not to drink wine, and that command has been obeyed.
