Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife because she was childless.  The Lord was receptive to his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.


When the Lord saw that Leah was neglected,  he opened her womb;  but Rachel was unable to conceive.


Jacob became angry with Rachel and said, ‘Am I in the place of God? He has withheld offspring  from you! ’


When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, ‘Who are these with you? ’ He answered, ‘The children God has graciously given your servant.’

I prayed for this boy,  and since the Lord gave me what I asked him for,


Those who are full hire themselves out for food, but those who are starving hunger no more. The woman who is childless gives birth to seven, but the woman with many sons pines away.
