Later he appeared to the Eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw him after he had risen.
He said to them, ‘Are you also as lacking in understanding? Don’t you realise that nothing going into a person from the outside can defile him?
But turning around and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, ‘Get behind me, Satan! You are not thinking about God’s concerns but human concerns.’
They kept this word to themselves, questioning what ‘rising from the dead’ meant.
They understood none of these things. The meaning of the saying , was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.
But they did not understand this statement; it was concealed from them so that they could not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.
Jesus knew they wanted to ask him, and so he said to them, ‘Are you asking one another about what I said, “In a little while, you will not see me; again in a little while, you will see me”?
Just then his disciples arrived, and they were amazed that he was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, ‘What do you want? ’ or ‘Why are you talking with her? ’
