‘How many loaves do you have? ’ Jesus asked them. ‘Seven,’ they said, ‘and a few small fish.’
He asked them, ‘How many loaves do you have? Go and see.’ When they found out they said, ‘Five, and two fish.’
His disciples answered him, ‘Where can anyone get enough bread here in this desolate place to feed these people? ’
He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. Taking the seven loaves, he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people. So they served them to the crowd.
‘You give them something to eat,’ he told them. ‘We have no more than five loaves and two fish,’ they said, ‘unless we go and buy food for all these people.’
