Their holdings and settlements were Bethel  and its surrounding villages; Naaran to the east, Gezer and its villages to the west, and Shechem and its villages as far as Ayyah and its villages,


They travelled from the Abarim range and camped on the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho.


In the north the border went westwards from Michmethath;  it turned eastwards from Taanath-shiloh and passed it east of Janoah.


and the water flowing downstream stood still, rising up in a heap that extended as far as  Adam, a city next to Zarethan. The water flowing downstream into the Sea of the Arabah   #– #the Dead Sea #– #was completely cut off, and the people crossed opposite Jericho.


Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites #– #no one leaving or entering.


At that time Joshua imposed this curse: The man who undertakes the rebuilding of this city, Jericho, is cursed before the  Lord. He will lay its foundation at the cost of his firstborn; he will finish its gates at the cost of his youngest.
