It will be like a man who flees from a lion only to have a bear confront him. He goes home and rests his hand against the wall only to have a snake bite him.
I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said: Strike the capitals of the pillars so that the thresholds shake; knock them down on the heads of all the people. Then I will kill the rest of them with the sword. None of those who flee will get away; none of the fugitives will escape.
They went and secured the tomb by setting a seal on the stone and placing the guards.
It was reported to Joshua, ‘The five kings have been found; they are hiding in the cave at Makkedah.’
But as for the rest of you, don’t stay there. Pursue your enemies and attack them from behind. Don’t let them enter their cities, for the Lord your God has handed them over to you.’
Then Joshua said, ‘Open the mouth of the cave, and bring those five kings to me out of there.’
